Lateral entry into civil services in India has sparked widespread debate and interest. Traditionally, the Indian bureaucracy was filled through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), a rigorous and highly competitive examination process. However, with the introduction of lateral entry, professionals from the private sector, academia, and public sector undertakings can now directly join at mid to senior-level positions. This method aims to infuse domain expertise, fresh perspectives, and specialized skills into governance and policy implementation.
